As we age, the skin on our upper eyelids may lose its elasticity causing eyelids to sag. In some people, droopy eyelids may actually interfere with vision by decreasing upper and peripheral vision or making rooms seem darker. Blepharoplasty, a surgery to correct the eyelids, removes excess skin and can be performed in-office.
Eyelid surgery that is performed to correct vision may be covered by insurance while the same surgery performed simply for cosmetic reasons is usually not covered by insurance. Blepharoplasty performed on the lower eyelids to correct bags under the eyes is almost never covered by insurance.
Recovery generally takes about 2 weeks.
